New filing deadlines for Foreign Bank Account Report (FBAR)

There are new filing deadlines for the Foreign Bank Account Report (FBAR) for 2017. Those with foreign bank accounts, brokerage accounts, retirement plans or any other type of foreign financial account must now file their FinCen Form 114 by April 15, which coincides with the deadline for filing federal income tax returns. The old filing date for the FBAR was June 30th.

Don’t worry if you do not get your FBAR filed by the April 15th deadline. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCen) provides an automatic extension to October 15th. You do not have to make a request for this extension.
